Respiratory Health in Winter (Part 2)

Last edition we saw the importance of maintaining high levels of Vitamin D and the broad-spectrum micro-nutrients in Cell eXtra. Today we focus on the things we can do to help us recover from a respiratory problem.

We have the perfect viral storm of Covid 19, primarily a respiratory virus; RSV (respiratory syncytial virus) and to top it off our normal winter flu. These viruses have resulted in people of all ages being sick for long periods of time. A common feature is persistent coughs and fatigue that continue for many weeks or months.

Specific nutrients if you have an underlying Respiratory issue.

Those who have an underlying respiratory issue (affecting lungs or sinuses) should consider taking a maintenance winter dose of Antiox Plus. While Antiox Plus has other uses, (such as circulatory health) I formulated Antiox Plus primarily to support Respiratory health. I included compounds like OPC and Quercetin that help prevent inflammation of airways.

While most of the ingredients help respiratory health, it is the OPC (grape seed extract) and Quercetin that have the most direct action. Both OPC and Quercetin help reduce over-expression of inflammatory chemicals, especially histamine, in airways.

Histamine is normally a helpful chemical produced in special immune cells called Mast cells. Incorrect immune function can lead to unwanted production of histamine. This causes inflammation and narrowing (constriction) of airways.

Antiox Plus maintenance dosage: 1 or 2 capsules daily. This assumes that you are also taking 2 capsules of Cell eXtra.

Antiox Plus emergency doses (if sick from a respiratory virus)

Normally 1 capsule twice daily, but up to 2 twice daily can be taken. I also recommend that you increase Cell eXtra to 2 twice daily when unwell.

Diet tip: Long- cooked chicken has enzymes that can help break down the ‘sticky’ mucous involved with respiratory infections. You need long, slow cooking to get this. Get a whole chicken and cook in slow cooker for a day. Remove the chicken meat and use this for meals. Let the bones continue to cook on low for another 6-12 hours. Use this as a soup base and have 2-3 times daily.
